Expanded Testing Options for Students: 01.21.22
Posted 1/21/22

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We are sharing some information about additional testing opportunities for students who may want to complete a COVID-19 test after receiving a Group Exposure notification from their school.

Reminder: you can review the at-a-glance resource to understand the updated COVID guidelines for students. Other resources and updates can be found on our COVID Safety and Health Information webpage: www.srvusd.net/backtoschool2122.

As we have shared with some community members who have reached out with questions, one of the reasons the California Department of Public Health gave the recommendation to move to group contact tracing is because it is a quicker and broader response to cases identified in school settings. This shift is possible in our schools because the multi-layered approach to COVID-19 mitigation has proven to be effective. Additionally, it's a strategy that means students may continue to take part in all aspects of K-12 schooling unless they develop symptoms or test positive for COVID-19. We are fortunate that the state of California is ahead of the game and always wants to respond with strategies for new challenges such as the Omicron variant in order to keep students in school!

Currently, we have ongoing test appointments available to all students, staff, and families at the Education Center (699 Old Orchard Drive, Danville), Monday through Saturday. We are very fortunate to be able to provide testing at the Education Center for the foreseeable future. Students also have the option to utilize county testing centers, pharmacies, visit their primary care physician for a test or to complete a home test.

We are also pleased to announce an expanded testing plan for SRVUSD students! We are implementing separate plans for Elementary and Secondary students. Antigen (rapid) tests will be the only option at the locations below. The Education Center will be the only District location offering both Antigen and PCR tests. Please thoroughly review the information below:

Elementary Students

In addition to home tests, physician-administered tests, testing at county locations and pharmacies, and the Education Center, Elementary students can also opt to visit our Elementary Student Only test location at Live Oak Elementary School.

Testing service at Live Oak Elementary School will begin on Monday, January 24th:

  • Testing at Live Oak will be administered by our vendor, Agile Force.
  • Parents/Caregivers must pre-register their student with Global Virus Pass (GVP) and schedule an appointment for the day they plan to visit.
  • If you have previously registered your student in GVP, you only need to log-in to your account and select an appointment date and time for them. Instructions for registering with GVP can be found here.
  • In GVP, in the facility search, enter and choose SRVUSD Elementary Students Only Testing as the location.
  • Bring student ID or student ID number to present to the technician.
  • Please exercise patience and grace with the testing process. There may be a line, and we promise that the staff are doing their best to test everyone in a timely manner. Test results can be viewed in the GVP app.  (sometime within 24 hours)
  • If you arrive during school hours, please park your vehicle in the parking lot adjacent to the city park/Tiffany Roberts Field on Sherwood Way.

Live Oak Elementary Test Location:  5151 Sherwood Way, San Ramon
Start Date:      Monday, January 24, 2022
Schedule:       Monday - Friday
Time:              11:00 am - 6:00 pm each day

Secondary Students (Middle and High Schools)

In addition to home tests, physician-administered tests, testing at county locations and pharmacies, and the Education Center, Secondary students can also opt to complete a test at their own school, with appointment times available two times per week.

Test service at our Secondary schools will begin on Tuesday, January 25th (note: appointments will not show up available in the GVP.app website until Monday afternoon)

  • Testing at all Secondary schools will be a nasal self-swab administered by our vendor, Agile Force. Students will complete their own nasal swab under the direction and supervision of the medical technician.
  • Parents/Caregivers must pre-register their student with Global Virus Pass (GVP) and schedule an appointment for the day their student plans to visit.
  • If you have previously registered your student in GVP, you only need to log-in to your account and select an appointment date and time for them. Instructions for registering with GVP can be found here.
  • Students should bring a student ID or student ID number to present to the technician.
  • Parents should direct their student to visit the test location on the appropriate day.
  • Students will complete the test and then return to their scheduled class, lunch, or break time. Students will not wait for results. Test results can be viewed in the GVP app. (sometime within 24 hours)
  • Students who are 13 years old and older can give their own consent for COVID-19 testing. If your student visits the test location and requests a test, the technician will consider consent has been given for the test procedure.
  • Secondary test locations are intended for students who attend that school. Younger siblings who need a test must visit Live Oak Elementary, the Education Center, or an alternate testing site.
  • High Schools: Student-athletes who are currently mandated to complete weekly testing will have priority testing on their weekly athletic testing days.

Finally, we ask that you schedule appointments for your student only when the need arises.

Scheduling appointments for a future date “just in case” or hoping to secure a timeslot that may not be needed could mean that students who truly need a test may not find any available appointments. We are all in this together, and we appreciate your attention to conserving resources and ensuring that we can provide equitable access to appointments for our entire SRVUSD community.

Thank you once again for partnering with us to keep our students and staff safe. Have a wonderful weekend!
