Social Justice


Expand your knowledge!  Start the Quail Run Social Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (J.E.D.I.) Program today!

What is it?
This social justice program can help our students embark on a journey to deepen their knowledge and understanding of key principles of equity and inclusion. The Quail Run Social Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (J.E.D.I.) Program consists of up to six (6) activities that kids need to complete to receive recognition and a cool t-shirt.  


How Do You Complete the Program?

  • Students in Grades TK, Kindergarten (K) and First (1st) need to complete steps 1, 2, and 3 below.
  • Students in Grades Second (2nd) - Fifth (5th) need to complete all 6 steps below.

To enhance learning, we recommend you discuss these topics with your whole family. 

After completion of required steps, send the Quail Run PTA a picture or copy of the following:

  • Step 1 Activity photo for students in Grades TK, K and 1st
  • Step 6 Activity essay for students in Grades 2nd - 5th 


Step 1 Activity: Make a collage or art project that represents any of the Social J.E.D.I. Program concepts. (all grades)


Step 2 Activity: Read a book from the suggested list or any other book that incorporates Social J.E.D.I. Program concepts. Try to read about that is not of your own culture or ethnicity. (all grades) Suggested websites for book options: 


Step 3 Activity: Watch a movie or movie segment from the suggested movie list that will lead to a discussion about race and equity.  (all grades)

Step 4 Activity: Interview a friend or close family member who is from another ethnicity and race and ask them about how they celebrate different holidays. You can use some or all of the interview questions from the template below. (grades 2-5)

Step 5 Activity: Visit a museum, neighborhood, or attend a cultural event where there is an opportunity to appreciate a different cultural identity. You may also venture out to a restaurant and eat something from another culture. (grades 2-5)

Step 6 Activity: Write a short essay (~250 words) on the meaning of the J.E.D.I. program or words and what you learned through the process of completing all steps. (grades 2-5)


Don't forget to email the Quail PTA your completed activity!

  • Students in Grades TK, Kindergarten (K) and First (1st) need to complete steps 1, 2, and 3 below. Email a picture of completed activity for Step 1 ONLY.
  • Students in Grades Second (2nd) - Fifth (5th) need to complete all 6 steps. Email a copy of the completed essay from Step 6 ONLY.

Once Quail Run PTA has received your completed activity, students can get a cool Social J.E.D.I. Program t-shirt AND an invitation to participate in an ice cream social later this school year.
